About this piece
The Famille Rose palette — fencai in Chinese — was developed in the Qing imperial kilns and is unmistakable for its soft pinks, opaque whites, and apple greens applied over a fired glaze. The brush passes through every petal, every fold of robe, every wave of water individually.
This vase carries a single figural panel: a dragon-boat scene from the Duanwu festival, with rowers leaning into the stroke. The reverse is a quieter composition of peony and prunus on a plain white ground, intended to allow the piece to be turned to a calmer face when desired.
The neck is band-painted in iron-red and gilt, and the foot is finished with a discreet artisan's signature.
